Do something from beginning to end without a plan.
Every sense has a way to evoke emotion. What emotion do you want to evoke?
Savor the seasonings of the food. Wrap your taste buds around every flavor and allow yourself to escape into the flavor. Intentionally appreciate every ounce of soul put into the dish.
Take time to observe what you see. Acknowledge the colors, the shapes, the complexity, and even the story behind what’s in front of you.
Let your nostrils lead you. Take time to smell the roses…or maybe a baby’s diaper. Just smell something. Smells are complex and they tell a lot – adding a level of complexity to a story, that only you can describe.
Feel the texture. Make note of the temperature. And be sure to make note of how it made you feel.
Listen for the beats, the instruments. Listen for what’s not being said. Listen to the birds. Listen beyond the obvious.
You may not complete your project. Heck, you may not complete your sentence. That’s okay. Ideas are often incomplete. Get what you have down, and come back to it later. Ideas may be like fine wine; just gets better with time.
Yep. I said it. It’s not the worst thing in the world, and you probably have some project that could use a little extra time. (If you can’t function without sleep, you may want to hold off on this one until the weekend.)
What do they know anyway? People can be such naysayers. And maybe you’re not good at it…yet. Oh well. Instead of giving up, give in. Give in to your desire to do what makes you happy.
“A lady wouldn’t [fill in blank].” Mama had a whole bunch of rules. Ok. Break ’em Sometimes we get so stuck on what mama or daddy would think, we fail to try things.
One of the first things I learned about copywriting is that there’s a time to break the rules. Yes. You can start a sentence with and, but and because. And yes, you can even write a run on it it adds to literary pleasure. So do it.

Just do it. Someone may have a better idea than you…or you may even stumble across something better. But you gotta be willing to not be in control.
This may seem super silly, but it allows you to visit your emotions and maybe even embarrass yourself. And after being embarrassed a time or two, you’ll realize, it’s not all that bad. The up side: You were able to out of your box.

Electronics distract from life’s basics. I mean really? Remeber the mud pies from childhood? Don’t virtually (i.e. almost) experience something. Do it for real.
